The Loussios River is where Zeus used to bathe! Its crystal clear water flows through a spectacularly and densely vegetated gorge. This river is perfect for experienced rafters! The trip is 8 km long. Along the route paddlers see arched bridges and crystal clear waterfalls which flow from steep rocks to leave unforgettable impressions.
We highly recommend staying in Karytaina with its narrow cobblestoned alleys, for this trip. There are fascinating old sites to explore in the areas such as a castle and monasteries which allow visitors to experience Loussios’s ancient history. Stemnitsa, a typical Arcadian mountain village is set on the left bank of the Lousios River. The Philosophou and Timiou Prodromou Monasteries and the archaeological site of Gortyna are some of the ancient and picturesque sites that are easily accessible from Stemnitsa. Take a stroll around Stemnitsa’s picturesque Kastro district and take in the amazing view of the Margaritsa Gorge spread out below.
