The Cerna River carves an erosive tectonic valley with numerous gorges that are quite deep in places. It has a narrow river bank with lots of curves and large rocks. The man made Tierna Lake is on the Cerna. The upper stretch of the Cerna is part of the Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park. The two itineraries mentioned above provide an exhilarating experience.
The Cerna River courses through one of Romania’s most beautiful valleys. There are picturesque hiking trails in the mountains around Herculane which offer great views and thermal baths.
