The Eastern Jiu flows from the Retezat Mountains to join the Western Jiu, which starts in the Parang and Godeanu Mountains, to form the Jiu just before the river heads into the mountains through a deep, narrow rocky canyon. The Jiu is one of the largest south flowing rivers in the Southern Carpathians. It gives rafters the opportunity to take in many gorgeous sites. The Canyon section is considered to be one of the most spectacular rafting rivers in Romania. It offers challenging white water rafting in a narrow gorge with tight curves, huge rocks and cliffs that tower more than 30 meters overhead in spots.
