The river Sluch flows through a channel in the Ukrainian Shield of the East European Craton which created the surrounding landscape. The river banks are high, often steep and covered with bushes and mixed forests.
Abundant cliffs create picturesque rock formations on the banks, steep slopes and rock precipices.
Occasionally rocky shoals, gentle rapids and riffles are encountered. The river’s current is quite fast, especially in the shallows.
Navigation is complicated by numerous manmade dams and dilapidated bridges which form rapids of varying grades of difficulty. Catamarans must be portaged around the functioning dams along the river.
